Material Details
It all begins in South Tyrol, Italy, with the cultivation of apples destined for the food industry, used to make juices, jams, and other edible products. If apple parts like peels and cores are not used, they are then thermally destroyed or deposited in landfills. Current estimates point to about 30,000 tons of apple waste.
Derived from the natural and already-existent byproducts of apple goods, apple leather transforms resources otherwise discarded as waste into new raw material. Through this process, apple waste replaces materials of chemical origin in the final product, while simultaneously lowering carbon consumption and emissions in the production chain.


Ecological Footprint Details
The carbon footprint of recovered apple waste is zero, while the carbon footprint of polyurethane, or foam, stands at 5,82kg CO2 eq/Kg PU.
In summary, every kilogram of apple residuals used to substitute PU equals 5,28kg or CO2 emissions saved.
